Homechecks

Our homechecking group was set-up to bridge the gap between potential fosters/adopters and the animal they want to help. Many people find themselves only looking at rescue animals locally and over-looking going further afield due to rescues not being able to homecheck out of their catchment area. This group has been developed to stop that happening. Now, after ten years, we are the largest Charity to offer this service and we are indeed: ‘The vital link between rescues and volunteers’.

Most of our volunteers, when they join us, are experienced and have done them before. Even so, they are sent a copy of the latest training manual so they can see our high expectations and understand our desire to do them correctly. If not, they are added to our large training programme that works hand-in-hand with our homechecking group. They are trained so they know the protocol involved and our criteria for doing them successfully and thoroughly. Once trained they will then be allowed to do solo homechecks on our behalf.

We can post over 1200 a month working alongside over 700 rescues both UK and overseas. Our Homecheck Admins are a dedicated and extremely hard-working team and will work tirelessly to help get each request covered as quickly as possible. Remember, all our admins are volunteers themselves!

This means that for example, a rescue in Cornwall no longer finds it difficult to re-home an animal in Scotland, as with so many members UK-wide, we can usually get each request covered. We represent each rescue we work with and are their ‘eyes and ears’ on the ground, providing them with a detailed and accurate report plus photographs for each homecheck so they can make an informed decision as to the suitability of each applicant/family and property.

Helping an animal in need find its new home and a rescue have a free space for another is so rewarding if you have some spare time. You are under no obligation to commit to the amount of time you can give – any is appreciated. We don’t only homecheck for cats and dogs though, we have members who know how to homecheck for birds, reptiles, bunnies you name it!
