We have throughout October, been promoting The Oldies. Those older dogs that need a home, often for their final couple of years or even months in a lot of cases. So, during OctOldies we have tried to promote as many as we can on our Resources and other Facebook pages plus our social media platforms. Please have a look in our Albums at just some of the dogs looking for a good home – you’ll be spilt for choice! You can ask us for help or contact the rescues direct.

These dogs often get overlooked with so many puppies and younger dogs looking for homes but these older babies need loving just as much and can bring so much happiness to your family and into their lives. Yes, it can be upsetting to consider taking on an older dog knowing you may not have years together but it’s so rewarding. Granted some may have on-going medical issues but lots are as fit as a fiddle despite their age. Please read the heart-warming story in Successes and what a difference you can make to these dog’s lives for as long as they are with you. If you think you can help, then please contact us straight away via the Resources Group or email at: theanimalteamrdr@gmail.com

Apart from that, it’s nearly the firework season already! This seems to be getting earlier and longer every year, starting before Halloween and carrying on for weeks – then again over the Christmas and New Year period. I cannot believe we are talking about this, where has this year gone?!?  Please read an article that might help if you have pets (especially dogs) that suffer during this time.

Things are still a struggle with Covid-19 a constant threat to us all. We are all trying to get-by as much as possible and we are continuing to try our best to maintain some sort of services despite it becoming more and more difficult every day with more areas going into lockdown or have stricter local restrictions in place. It is affecting our Homecheck Group mainly due to not being allowed to go into other people’s homes. It is a constant struggle for our amazing admins to keep on top of those we can or cannot post. A worrying time again not just for our members and families but for the dogs who so badly need new homes.

Despite the much stricter restrictions, we have posted 1098 homechecks, covered 52 transport runs, carried out 27 assessments. Promoted hundreds of dogs on our social media platforms and groups.

We also added a further eight dogs into our foster programme and helped to get another six adopted, so a good month for this fairly new group. Hopefully we will be able to expand our Foster Register over the coming months. If you can help us to foster or for rescues, we are there to try and help – please contact me direct. Thank you.

As always, thank you to our fabulous admins, volunteers and the rescues we work alongside.

Onwards and upwards – it’s November in a few days 😊
